Written declaration 0008/2016 on Diabetes
PCDE welcomes Written declaration 0008/2016 on Diabetes which was adopted on 02/05/2016 by the European Parliament.
Signed by 405 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), this Written Declaration calls on the European Commission and the European Council to prioritise diabetes as a major European public health concern and to develop an EU strategy for diabetes prevention, diagnosis, and control. Member States are encouraged to establish national diabetes plans and to develop strategies to improve access to healthy food and drink for all.
Such support for diabetes in the European Parliament is crucial for helping the 32 million people living with diabetes in the European Union and sends a strong signal to the wider European region.
“We wish to thank the 405 MEPs who have signed this Declaration. As the voice of people with diabetes and their healthcare providers, we urge Member States, the European Commission and the European Council to take on board all the measures recommended by the European Parliament. We all have a role to play at the individual, national and European levels to fight against the rapid growth of the pandemic and its debilitating complications” said Prof Dr Sehnaz Karadeniz, Regional Chair IDF Europe.
